GRAVENHURST — Here’s how e. e. cummings mused about this time of year: “Peering from some high window at the gold of a November sunset and feeling that if day has to become night, this is a beautiful way.”
Whatever you’re in the mood for at this cosy and introspective time of year, do come by Gravenhurst Public Library and peruse our shelves — poetry, prose, humour, mystery, fantasy, science fiction, DIY, self-help, science, technology, biography — and so much more! And if you don’t see what you’re looking for, ask us and we can search for it through our interlibrary loan system and order it for you! Also keep in mind that we are always open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings until 8 p.m.
Looking for some fun for your kids or grandkids on the upcoming PA Day? Look no further! Register now for November 23 activities at GPL! It’s free of charge! Join our “Building Club” from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and from 1 to 3 p.m. its “Art! Art! Art!” If you would like your child to stay all day, please provide lunch and a snack. For children in SK to Grade 5, parents should register now as there are limited spaces available.
Our Needlecraft Club has a particular request to all you knitters, crocheters and wool workers: we need items for our mitten tree! Come “decorate” our tree with new, handmade or store-bought mittens, hats, scarves, socks and gloves. We will be accepting donations from November 19 through to December 14. All “decorations” will be donated to the Manna Food Bank and the Women’s Resource Centre in Gravenhurst to keep our community warm. The next meeting of the club is Wednesday, December 5 (meeting every first Wednesday of the month), at 6 p.m. Drop in any time between 6 and 7:45 p.m. If you enjoy knitting, crocheting, quilting, needlepoint and more, this club is for you. Beginners, pros and everyone in between are most welcome!
Join Laura for a whole new series of Tech Time Training, Fridays at 12 p.m. On November 16, it’s Facebook time: see how easy it is to make an account, add friends, and get around Facebook. If you’re curious about Instagram and Twitter, join us November 30. Learn how to showcase your photos on Instagram, and how to “tweet” and use Twitter on your tablet or smartphone. All are welcome to one, some or all of these training sessions that are completely free of charge.
Come outside and Explode a Story on Saturday, November 17 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Have some fun with Great Moose Adventures and GPL for story-based outdoor games and exercise your body and mind! The program is geared to kids aged four to eight years of age. Registration through Great Moose’s website (www.greatmooseadventures.com/explode-a-story) is required.
