Jonathan Van Ness, the resident hairstylist on the hit Neflix series Queer Eye (season three is in production now), is always urging the folks helped by the show’s fab-five hosts to prioritize taking better care of themselves.

Now the grooming guru has teamed up with Lipton’s line of Wellness teas for a Stress Less Monday event at the Oculus in New York today. Here, Van Ness shares his favorite self-care tips:

What does your self-care routine look like?

It depends on what’s going on that day, but I typically spend 10 minutes every morning on my routine — more if I’m doing my hair. I love adding a little yoga or meditation, even if it’s just a few minutes of breathing to set the scene for the day.

I’m also obsessed with essential oils and botanicals to feel my best. When I’m stressed I like a tea with chamomile for relaxation. Lipton Stress Less tea is perfect blend of some of my favorite essential oils and botanicals. What’s also great is that Lipton has a line of teas for every little moment where you may need to recharge throughout the day.

Is there a self-care habit or ritual that you never skip?

Self-care is so important inside and outside. I always make sure to drink enough water and get plenty of sleep. Plus yoga is a must!

How do you gear up for a busy week?

My schedule is so crazy with filming and events that I try to dedicate time to connect with my friends and family as much as I can, and even cuddle my cats when I’m gearing up for a big week. That’s why I’m excited to connect with me and others over a cup of Lipton Stress Less tea today at the Oculus. This event will share some of my easiest self-care tips that anyone can work with to make Monday the fiercest day of the week.

What helps you stay calm when things get crazy?

When I’m feeling out of sync, I dedicate three minutes for myself to breath and meditate. There’s nothing wrong with allowing yourself a moment to connect your body to your breath and let the mind relax.

I also really dig products that enhance a sense of calm. I obviously love essential oils and botanicals in my hair products to feel zen, but I also love them in my tea. Lipton Stress Less tea has amazing notes of chamomile, cinnamon and lavender that help you unwind. You can just feel the bad vibes melt away.

What are some wellness trends you like?

I love yoga and Pilates — anything to keep me moving. I’m also really big into DIY masks and scrubs to keep my skin feeling tingly and fresh. I also like doing activities that free the mind and enhance creativity, like coloring. At the Lipton event, we’re featuring a larger-than-life coloring wall to help people escape the stress of Monday and connect with others.

Are there any wellness trends you think we should skip?

I don’t recommend going to extremes when starting a new wellness routine, like deciding to go from blonde to brunette overnight or going on a three-day cleanse. Break those verticals down incrementally, like slowly introducing a light brown color if you’re blonde or buying sugar-free desserts if you’re going to cut sugar out of your diet. Sometimes the little things can make a big impact.
